Research Technologist Position

Our neuroscience and molecular genetics lab is seeking highly motivated individuals for a research technologist position to support our studies on human brain development. Our research studies the molecular mechanisms involved in brain development as it relates to ion channels, as well as the development of therapeutics for children affected with channelopathy disorders. Research technologists will perform a wide range of molecular biology, cell culture, and animal-based techniques, among general lab duties. Research technologists routinely have the opportunity to serve as co-authors on publications that include their work, with the ideal candidate undertaking an "individual project" to support applications to PhD or MD programs. Previous research experience is highly desirable, but not required. Successful applicants are expected to make a two-year commitment.

Research Technologist Position will:

• Perform a variety of routine and specialized laboratory experimental procedures and experiments utilizing cutting edge laboratory equipment, recording and checking results for completeness, and ordering supplies.

• Maintain records of results and methodologies in a log of work performed.

• Maintain equipment, lab area and supplies in a neat professional manner.

• Sterilize and clean glassware, prepare media and other materials using appropriate procedures.

• Inventories supplies alerts supervisor to needed supplies, or mixes standard reagents.

• Processes order for supplies and/or animals. Attends courses in safety procedures for handling, storage and disposal of biohazardous, flammable, corrosive and toxic materials.

• Carries out all laboratory activities in compliance with applicable regulations and protocols.

• Attends courses, lectures and conferences to further own knowledge of research and laboratory techniques, consulting with other researchers and technicians to exchange information.

• Contributes to the team within and between departments and organizations.


To Qualify, You Must Have.

• BS in biology/neuroscience/genetics/computer science/engineering/math or a related field.

• Strongly motivated, highly organized and willing to put in extra hours when required.

• A minimum of two years of commitment.

• Previous laboratory experience preferred, but not necessary.
